~Autumn Leaves~

A chilly and clear Autumn Sunday in the forest is one of the most wonderful sights in the nature, - but do you know why?

Did you know that...
... the leaves on the trees change their colors because the sunlight is reducing?

Less sunlight means that it comes less moisture from the treetops, which is what gives the tree it´s water supply.
The leaves change their colors and gradually begin falling off, since the nutrition stops when the days turn shorter and shorter.
The chlorophyll , the substance which makes the leaves green and is responsible for the process of transforming the sunlight into energy, is extremly dependent of the nutrient, and when it stops, the chlorophyll begin to disappear quickly. As a consequence of this, beginning at the edge of each leaf, the leaves' color changes to red and yellow. The colors come from pigments which are not broken down as fast as the chlorophyll. There are more than 400 pigments in all trees in the world, and a normal plant contains about two or three different pigments. That´s why the color of the leaf can have several nuances before it is finally withered. The leaves' pigments protect the chlorophyll from being broken down by sunlight, and further more, they help the leaves to cach other spectrum from the light.
