Cinnamon buns are very
popular, at least in our family, they all love them fresh
with a glass of milk. I'm not a big fan other than to bake
them and make my family happy;) A very important ingredience
is of course the cinnamon:
-
cinnamon is the luxuary spice of Christmas, originally from
Sri Lanka but is now spread all the tropical world. It's the
barque of the cinnamon tree which is used as a spice.
Cinnamon have been used since ages, the Greeks used it
already 400 B.C. and is meantioned in the Old Testament.
Here in Sweden we eat appr. 49 grams per person each year,
which is relatively much compared to other countries at
least here in Europe. Most of all it's our love for cinnamon
buns and of course, the Christmas porridge and the "glögg",
hot wine punch. But in India and Middle East they use much
more cinnamon, they use it in spice mixes as garam masala
och curry. The name Cinnamon comes from the Latin word
Canelle, which means small tube.

Did you know that:
- A half teaspoon a day on the yoghurt or soured milk lower
the bloodsugar level?
- In the 15th century cinnamon was a spice that only kings
could affored?
- Cinnamon is the most common faked spice after saffron?
- To sell cinnamon barque to others than Dutch civil
servants gave death penalty in Dutch India in the 17th
century?
