~ Open landscape ~
"I prefer the open landscape, want to live down by the sea.
Some months the year, so that the soul can get silent and free.
I am born for open landscape, winds blowing strong and near.
Where the lark hangs high up in the sky, singing beautiful and clear.
Distilling there my spirits drink and gathering my herbs myself.
And drinking it with relish to herring fish and home-baked bread.
I prefer the open landscape, want to live down by the sea.
I prefer peace and freedom for both body and soul.
If full of aggression you approach, I better see your heels.
I prefer the hours of twilight and the blow of evening wind
with cockcrow on some distance and the next house rather far,
however not farer along than that here now and then
I can sitting under shining stars hear festivity and song.
I prefer peace and freedom for both body and soul.
Let me hear the roaring waves, the early cry of gull.
And listen to ocean's melodies inside the singing shell.
With what is clear and simple
I am on safe ground.
Where yes is yes and no is no and doubt no longer found.
Then I put a garland of green leaves
on the place where runic stones do stand
witnessing that an idea could last a thousand years in this land.
Let me hear the roaring waves, the early cry of gull.
I prefer the open landscape, want to live down by the sea."
